Two Major William Kentridge Art Exhibitions in Cape Town
Cape Town is a fast-growing cultural capital and for the first time in over a decade, the largest exhibition to be held in Africa by internationally acclaimed artist William Kentridge is set to open in the Mother City in August 2019.
The major exhibition of his work will be hosted simultaneously in two parts by Norval Foundation and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), opening 24 August 2019 and running through to March 2020.
William Kentridge is a South African draftsman, performer, and filmmaker. Best known for his animated drawings, the central focus of Kentridge’s oeuvre has been to examine the years before and after apartheid. Both exhibitions will include major works from Kentridge’s extensive oeuvre, and will be accompanied by two new publications, conceived in collaboration between Norval Foundation, Zeitz MOCAA, and the artist.
Kentridge’s works are held in the collections The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Goetz Collection in Munich, among others.
