Beaches, Sapphire Lagoons and Reefs

The République de Maurice, a volcanic island in the Indian Ocean, is the pre-eminent island destination and acclaimed for its beaches, sapphire lagoons and reefs.

The interior is mountainous and includes the Black River Gorges National Park, one of only three protected regions supporting the island’s extant, endemic species. Port Louis, the Mauritian capital, boasts a cultural melange of foreign in uence and includes sites such as the Champs de Mars horse track, the colonial Eureka plantation and an internationally recognised 18th – century botanical garden, sanctuary for the giant Victoria Amazonica water lily. World-class watersports are indisputably the raison d’être for visiting these shores but Mauritius is hardly one-dimensional.
